Shopping:

Shopping on Grand Bahama is unlike shopping on any other island in the Bahamas. Being located only a short 30 minute flight from Florida gives Grand Bahama the opportunity to have brand name American products, but yet still have a casual island feeling.

Another advantage on Grand Bahama is our duty free and no tax polices in Freeport. This allows you to purchase goods such as Perfumes, fragrances, crystal, leather goods, jewelry, fine linens, watches and clocks, photographic equipment, china, and telescopes all tax free. Most of the shopping on Grand Bahama happens in our two open air shopping centers, Port Lucaya Market Place and the International Bazaar.

Tax Free:

If living on the waterfront in your immaculate custom built home isnt enough, let us make it a little better. Grand Bahama is a tax free haven. This means you will no longer be paying the government on the money you earn (income tax), not a penny on the money you inherit (inheritance tax), nor will you be paying tax for the property you own (property tax). There is also no capital gains, no death tax on estates and of course no sales tax! $500,000 qualifies you for residency.

Schools:

Grand Bahama follows the British schooling system which provides our island with a very high level of education. There are many private and public schools that offer a wide variety of courses from pre-k all the way to high school level.

One of the top schools on Grand Bahama is Lucaya International School. This school is an international school and is a major member of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the International Baccalaureate Organization. LIS also offers an additional 13th grade which provides students with an International Baccalaureate Diploma which is recognized by top colleges around the world as signifying a premier education.

Telecommunications:

Telecommunications are offered by Batelco which provide a wide Variety of cutting-edge technology, products and services that are available to every homeowner and business.

Resource Availability:

Grand Bahama takes development and resource availability very serious. Unlike many islands that are suffering from lack of fresh water supplies, modern cable, Internet access, telecommunications and modern infrastructure, Grand Bahama offers all the amenities that you would find on the main land.

Medical Care:

Grand Bahama Island also has excellent medical care, with an up-to-date hospital. The Rand memorial hospital is a fully functioning hospital with an on-hand emergency room. Grand Bahama also offers many other private health care centers and clinics. The island is also home to the practice of many American and Canadian surgeons, physicians and dentists.

Road System:

The degree and quality of roads on Grand Bahama is remarkable. Unlike the typical stereotype of an island, Grand Bahama was pre-planned and the infrastructure was developed to give Grand Bahama its highest potential. 200 miles of wide roads were developed on the island which are re-surfaced and painted to give them their up-most usability. The plan also called for landscaped medians, litter-free sidewalks, traffic lights, and street lamps, which provides a visually beautiful environment all year round.
